Australia head coach Michael Cheika says threats were acquired by him in Israel Folau's contentious social media post amid the fallout.
The 30-year-old devout Christian had his contract terminated by Rugby Australia in April for writing"hell expects" homosexual people.
Full-back Folau, that won 73 caps, is now suing the body, arguing his contract has been ended.
"People were saying all sorts of stuff," Cheika stated.
"Just threats I was getting; folks on the road, some to my head, a couple at some games. It was simply crazy things."
Folau - who's searching #5.6m (AU $10m) in compensation, an apology along with a return to the side - escaped punishment for similar anti-gay remarks this past calendar year.
The negative of cheika, whose, '' said the body needed to act in the best interests of the team.
Before Folau's sacking in April, Cheika
previously said he"wouldn't be able to" pick him, adding"the group is still king".
"I am not disappointed in the person [Folau] because if that is what he believes, and that is where his enthusiasm is, I won't ever tell a person to hide it," he included in the Sydney Morning Herald.
"I may not agree with everyone, but I'd never need someone to not say what they believe. I am no person to judge.
"Another disappointing part is we dropped one of our best players; a guy who I assisted return. I wouldn't say I'm responsible for what has occurred. It's just life. But I had to do what was needed for the group."
Cheika denied claims the Wallabies camp had been divided following Folau's sacking but revealed crew meetings were held as a way to move forward.
"Of course, we had to address it," he explained. "We talked about it in smallish circles, then one , and then from the team environment together, soeveryone was clear about what exactly was going on.
"We then got on with firm, which will be representing Australia from footy. That is what we're here to perform."
